This accomplishes two things - it saves you money on your bills, and it contributes towards the suppliers and grid being able to manage peak loads using less carbon-intensive generation. Paired with a smart meter from a renewable electricity supplier such as Octopus, the more sophisticated batteries can optimise to take best advantage of agile tariffs.

Batteries are also useful if you haven't got a solar array - for example, if you live in a flat, or your property is shaded or facing north.
